Senior Thesis

Using light as a medium for painting and photography as a canvas, Ben questions the boundaries between nature and the digital world while bringing light to the forefront of the conversation.

Artist Statement

My works explore optical playfulness, surprising juxtapositions and a sense of visual wonderment. I seek inspiration from the everyday world around me and from my own personal experiences. My works are photographic and video-based. The objects that I use in my work can be found by anyone and that’s what makes my work more relatable. I use the camera because it captures what you see, however, it is up to me as the artist to capture what you feel. Aesthetically, my work focuses on visual simplicity, strong composition, naturally occurring patterns, and duplicated objects. The forms of the work themselves are shaped systematically. Having structure in my work shows a flow of ideas in which the viewer can incorporate into themselves.
